Field Hockey goaltender Briana Earle nabs Liberty League honor
TROY, N.Y. –The Liberty League has announced its weekly rookie performers in field hockey and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Briana Earle was tabbed the Rookie of the Week for her 2-0 performance for the Red Hawks last week.
Earle, a native of Baldwinsville, N.Y., backstopped Rensselaer to two wins last week, allowing just two goals while making 17 saves in 140:43 minutes. In a 2-1 overtime victory at Oneonta, she stopped nine shots. She then made eight saves in a 6-1 win over Wheaton.
Through seven games, Earle owns a 4-2 record, including a 1.33 goals against average. She has made 42 saves with a .840 save percentage and also has a shutout. She currently leads the Liberty League in saves, is second in saves per contest (7.00 average) and is fifth in goals against average.
The former C. W. Baker High School standout was a three-year member of the field hockey team and also a captain. She was named the school’s Outstanding Field Hockey Player twice and helped her team to the CO League Championship in 2007.
The field hockey team, which is currently 5-2, opens Liberty League play on Friday and Saturday when it hosts Rochester (4pm) and #11 William Smith (2pm), respectively, at Harkness Field.
