TROY, N.Y. – The Liberty League has announced its weekly awards in field hockey and women’s soccer and three Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes have been selected. Sara Stylinski and Briana Earle were named the Offensive and Defensive Performers of the Week, respectively, in field hockey while Judy Kastner was tabbed the Offensive Performer of the Week in women’s soccer.

Stylinski, a forward from Southington, Conn., helped Rensselaer to its first victory of the season – a 1-0 defeat of Keene State – scoring the game’s only goal on a penalty corner in the second half. She finished with two shots, both on goal.

Last season, the former Southington High School standout was second on the team in scoring with nine points on four goals and an assist. Playing in all 16 games, she recorded 30 shots (16 on goal) and had a game-winning tally.

A freshman goalie out of Baldwinsville, N.Y., Earle stopped all eight shots she faced to backstop the Red Hawks to the win over the Owls. She made two saves in the first half and six more in the second to post the shutout in her first collegiate contest.

Earle, who graduated from C. W. Baker High School, was a two-time Outstanding Player of the Year and helped her squad to the league championships in 2007. A captain, she earned All-League honors twice and was also a three-year member of the track & field team.

The field hockey squad (1-0) returns to action this weekend when it travels to Montclair State (5pm) and William Paterson (1pm) on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The women’s soccer team hosts city-rival Russell Sage on Wednesday (7pm) and Alfred on Saturday (12pm). Both games will be played at Renwyck Field and will feature live stats available at http://sidearmstats.com/rpi/wsoc/.
