Congrats to Sandy and Petee

TROY, N.Y. – The Liberty League has announced its weekly awards in field hockey and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes Sandy Turnbull and Alissa Peterson have been recognized. Turnbull was named the Offensive Performer of the Week, while Peterson garnered Rookie of the Week. Turnbull, a junior forward out of Upperville, Va., tallied a team-best 11 points on five goals and an assist in two wins last week. She also had 15 shots, including 10 on goal. In a 6-2 league win over Vassar, Turnbull had three goals on five shots. She then added two goals and an assist on a game-high 10 shots (7 on goal) in a 6-1 victory at Castleton State.A former standout at Chatham Hall, Turnbull leads the Engineers in a number of categories, including goals (6), points (13), shots (29) and shots on goal (29). She has started all 10 games.Last season, Turnbull finished second in scoring with five goals and four assists for 14 points. She also had a team-high three game-winning tallies. As a freshman, she posted two goals and an assist for five points to finish fourth on the team in scoring. A native of Gaithersburg, Md., Peterson scored two goals with two assists on five shots last week. In the win over Vassar, she notched an assist and added a shot on goal. Peterson closed out the week with two goals, including the first of her career, and an assist at Castleton State.Peterson ranks third in scoring with two goals and two assists for six points in 10 games. In addition to 10 shots, including six on goal, she has a game-winning tally. A five-sport athlete at Quince Orchard High School, Peterson was a two-time captain in field hockey. She was a Washington Post All-Met selection three times and helped lead her team to three appearances in the MD 4A State Championship, which the team won in 2008. In addition to field hockey, she also played lacrosse and was a member of the diving, tennis and track & field teams.The field hockey team (2-8; 1-2 Liberty League) returns to action on Friday and Saturday at #18 William Smith (4pm) and Rochester (2pm), respectively. RPI Vs. Castleton


Castleton, Vt. - Rookie Alissa Peterson (Gaithersburg, MD) broke a 1-1 tie at the 21:06 mark of the first half and the Rensselaer field hockey team scored two unanswered goals before halftime to defeat Castleton State, 6-1, in non-conference action on Sunday. The Engineers improve to 2-8 on the season while the Spartans fall to 3-7.
